Frank
Lloyd Wright, in his speech on "organic architecture" in 1945, suggested that if the architect--indeed, the individual--were
honest with themself, style, as in "what style is your house?" would never exist because each of us would have a
different approach to the character and design of our homes. I define this as an "architectural DNA" that would
distinguish my home from yours. Unfortunately, not all of us have the time, money
or knowledge to design our own home and so home design is in the hands of a few. Some architects have been creative while
others have been slavish to the past. Some have tried to draw from their client's intellectual "DNA," while
others have designed the home as though they were going to live there--but with the client's money. And, always, there
have been individuals, whether formally trained or not, who have influenced home design. The
examples on this page give an overview of homes in metropolitan Los Angeles. Some are typical. Some are as unique as, perhaps,
their original owners--or designers. I include them as "LA Style" to suggest the exceptional variety that would
be uncommon in most communities. Some of these were homes sold by me, either as the seller's or buyer's agent. If
you are interested in a similar home, contact me.
